To make it on your own, you either need to sell a product (information) or a service. Taking this one step further, you can either choose two paths, help others obtain their goals or momentarily distract others from their everyday lives.
Dream Maker
On this path, if you help enough people make their dreams come true; you in turn will achieve yours. For example, becoming rich, retiring early, and living a better life. Some examples of successful gurus are Anthony Robbins, Robert Kiyosaki, and Donald Trump. Once again, if you become an expert in your field and assist enough people become successful in that field, you too will become successful.
Life Distracter
We all do it. Life got you down? Caught in the rat race? Need to get away? Why do we love watching movies, listening to music, or taking in a sporting event? We need to be entertained. Following in the footsteps of every successful movie star, musician, and professional athlete, if you help enough people take a break from their normal lives, you too will be successful.
Final Thoughts
Chatting with a good friend about this very subject, he wondered, “That means life sucks! We are all starved for entertainment and want to get away from our mundane lives!” You can see why I am over the top sometimes. 
Let’s take a look at your blog. If you continue writing quality content, attract more readers, and help them reach their dreams or momentarily distract them from their lives, you, one day will reach your dreams, too. However, no matter what path you choose, make your moves well as they will echo in eternity!

Can one be both? With my blog, just as an example, I end up trying to help people for the most part but entertaining on occasion as well. The goal is to help folks with responsible personal finance choices, but my series on super frugal maneuvers (Squirreling Gone Wild) serves as an escape as well. So maybe someone can try both approaches.
Not that I’m a true guru, of course……maybe if I’m lucky someday, right:)
Gladiator was/is an entertaining movie…..thrilling with good cinematography. I’ve been to the Colosseum in Rome, and the stories the guide told us about the battles there were brought to life in the movie….though they were a lot meaner back then in real life!

Yeah, loved the movie. I visited the Colosseum, but didn’t take the tour. Amazing structure. I’m sure they were meaner back then. Today, there are guys, packing a few pounds, dressed up like gladiators for photo ops!
Before Donald Trump became a Guru, he was good in real estate! He made his mistakes such as the Atlantic City Casinos and he even had difficulties in his real estate empire, but he came back. I don’t really care for his marketing style, but it works for him. My point is he likes what he does and does it very well. I identify with that!

He failed and was fortunate to come back, but how does one know not to give up because they will come back one day? Fine line between a comeback and a total collapse.
Becoming life distraction seems interesting enough as a way to achieve the success.

I love that scene! I would love to be an entertainer but I think I’m more of someone who likes to help others to their goals. Maybe if I can entertain along the way, I will achieve both!
