The Fighter: Rocky 2010

My wife at the last minute surprises me with a free screening to The Fighter with Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale. With movie tickets around 12 bucks a pop I was all in. The movie is based on the true story of boxer Micky Ward’s struggle with his troublesome family and taking control of his roller coaster boxing career.

Wahlberg, who is monopolizing the All American comeback kid roles (think Invincible), does his best Sylvester Stallone impersonation with Amy Adams doing a great turn as his Adrian. Some of her battles with Walhberg’s siblings were classic. However, it’s Christian Bale stealing the show with his Tour de Force performance as Dickie. His weight loss and Boston accent makes him almost unrecognizable. It is very similar to seeing Charlize Theron in Monster. After seeing the movie, I was inspired to continue to meet the Yakezie Challenge and face any challenge life throws my way. The movie’s motto is “Every dream deserves a fighting chance.” Let’s get it on!

  1. Looks like fun. I’ll wait for it on DVD. 🙂
I’m way too cheap to go to the movie theater these days. I liked Cinderella man, that was an inspiring fighter movie.

I loved the Clint Eastwood movie about a woman fighter, Million Dollar Baby. Very powerful. Have you seen it? I do like Mark W but like retireby40 I will wait till it is on DVD.

Heard that was a good one, too. Need to add that to my watchlist. If you like Mark W. and sports, Invincible is pretty good. Same type of story, but on a football field. Funny, that was based on a true story, too.
