OC Pregnancy and Beyond 2012

It was a sunny Saturday afternoon and I headed down to the South Coast Collection. The parking lot was packed and I was lucky to find a space. What was all the commotion about? I felt a little out of place as the courtyard was crawling with hundreds of women. Would a newly minted daddy blogger be welcomed at the 2012 OC Pregnancy and Beyond Event?

Although I was heavily outmanned and outgunned, I didn’t feel out of place at all. How could you feel out of place when everyone was happily buzzing from booth to booth with their bundles of joy? It was a little cramped with hundreds of visitors and vendors. Navigating through with a stroller was challenging, but I survived. There were a handful of doulas, photographers, and a car seat safety booth. I was intrigued by The Parent Tree who described themselves as the Yelp for parents. I was also impressed with clean bee baby, an eco friendly cleaning service for car seats and strollers. They were even featured in Entrepreneur magazine. Finally, since I used the Knot to prepare for my wedding, it was nice to see a familiar face in TheBump.com as I entered parenthood.

Final Thoughts

As I am getting used to being a First Time Father, I initially felt out of place at an event that celebrated motherhood. But like I said, how can you not soak in the positive vibe from all the beaming parents and kids? Also, I know pregnancy, birth, and motherhood are more associated with females, but last I checked fathers are equally important partners. It takes two to tango right? So to all you dads out there, don’t forget to celebrate your pregnancy, birth, and fatherhood. Last, but not least, to all you moms out there, Happy Mother’s Day!

Particularly around Mother’s Day, we are nearly invisible! Fathers are extremely important. They are male role models for children and support the spouse in many ways.

  2. Hey Buck!

I thought I had left a comment on this article as I enjoyed it so much, but I must have messed it up. I found it befitting to comment on this article to let you know how much I enjoyed reading it. You’re completely right though. Don’t feel bad either, I think it is awesome that you went to this convention, celebrated and had a good time.

This was a very fun read.

    Thanks,
    Timothy
