MozRank: Drop that Zero and Get With the Hero

Ok, ok, for all you Vanilla Ice fans out there, I know you must recognize this famous line from his blockbuster, Cool as Ice. Please forgive me as I’m trying to make a point about PageRank. It can no longer be used to validate a website’s popularity. I have been blogging consistently for the past two months. According to Website Grader I have 80 pages in Google’s index, my Alexa ranking is currently 364,514 top 1.17% of all websites), and my visitors are growing everyday. What do I get for my efforts? A big fat zero 🙁 (hence the title). Specifically, my all important PageRank is N/A (not available). There are four possible reasons.

(1) the web page is new, and it is not indexed by Google yet,
(2) the web page is indexed by Google, but it is not ranked yet,
(3) the web page was indexed by Google long ago, but it is recognized
as a supplemental (Supplemental Results) page,
(4) the web page or the whole website is banned by Google.

Like I said before, Google has 80 of my pages indexed, so it can’t be reason number 1. My blog is a little more than two months old so it was NOT indexed by Google long ago (number 3). My content is quite tame so I don’t believe I have been banned by Google (number 4). We can then assume that the reason my blog is N/A is because of reason number 2, the web page is indexed by Google, but it is not ranked yet. However, I insist there is a fifth reason, not listed above. I am not ranked because PageRank hasn’t been updated since April 02, 2010.

Although I am blogging because it is my passion, my ability to use this as a passive income stream has been rendered useless because many companies use PageRank as the defacto system for judging a website. My blog was created after April 02, 2010 so my PageRank still sits at N/A. Unless Google updates PageRank again, we need to find another way to evaluate a website’s popularity. We should make people aware of MozRank as a more reliable and up to date website evaluator. Don’t just take my word for it. Tons of bloggers are banning together to find a solution for this monumental problem. Here are just a few.

Love the title of this post! Agree with you – either google needs to update their stats or make way for MozRank.

  3. Thanks for getting the word out! We need advertisers and others to really look at alternatives to Google. Also, great title!

Thanks and I’m with you! Perhaps Google is too busy these days… Guess we have no choice, but to make some noise about it! 🙂

  5. Why don’t I remember that movie at all???

Thanks so much for this post. The real zeros out here (hehe) have so much to learn. Keep it coming!

    • Buck says:

Honestly, I never saw the movie myself. I think I saw a trailer years ago and remembered that catchphrase. Yep, PageRank better watch out for all us zeros coming after them! 🙂

Love the 80s. Great pick for a the song above.

Gotta love them 80’s! 🙂 Ironically, I may have been mistaken. Cool as Ice came out in 1991. Dunno why 80’s just sounds better than 90’s. 🙂

Amazing how PR was the de-facto for so long and since it isn’t being updated regularly it has become irrelevant to most people, but not the ones holding the purse strings! Love your style… keep it up.

It would be nice to be more specific in the article. Like nice link to rank checker would be nice
