Ok, ok, for all you Vanilla Ice fans out there, I know you must recognize this famous line from his blockbuster, Cool as Ice. Please forgive me as I’m trying to make a point about PageRank. It can no longer be used to validate a website’s popularity. I have been blogging consistently for the past two months. According to Website Grader I have 80 pages in Google’s index, my Alexa ranking is currently 364,514 top 1.17% of all websites), and my visitors are growing everyday. What do I get for my efforts? A big fat zero :( (hence the title). Specifically, my all important PageRank is N/A (not available). There are four possible reasons.

(1) the web page is new, and it is not indexed by Google yet,
(2) the web page is indexed by Google, but it is not ranked yet,
(3) the web page was indexed by Google long ago, but it is recognized
as a supplemental (Supplemental Results) page,
(4) the web page or the whole website is banned by Google.

Like I said before, Google has 80 of my pages indexed, so it can’t be reason number 1. My blog is a little more than two months old so it was NOT indexed by Google long ago (number 3). My content is quite tame so I don’t believe I have been banned by Google (number 4). We can then assume that the reason my blog is N/A is because of reason number 2, the web page is indexed by Google, but it is not ranked yet. However, I insist there is a fifth reason, not listed above. I am not ranked because PageRank hasn’t been updated since April 02, 2010.

Although I am blogging because it is my passion, my ability to use this as a passive income stream has been rendered useless because many companies use PageRank as the defacto system for judging a website. My blog was created after April 02, 2010 so my PageRank still sits at N/A. Unless Google updates PageRank again, we need to find another way to evaluate a website’s popularity. We should make people aware of MozRank as a more reliable and up to date website evaluator. Don’t just take my word for it. Tons of bloggers are banning together to find a solution for this monumental problem. Here are just a few.
