Krua Siri: Thai Town Treat
My wife and I were in Thai Town looking for dinner. We had a few usual spots, but we wanted to experiment and try something new. We accidentally spotted Krua Siri on the corner of Hollywood and Normandie. It was a mom and pop, hole in the wall, but there was a decent crowd already there. Good sign. We quickly reviewed their menu and it looked promising. They also showed off their LA Times review. We were sold and quickly grabbed a table. There was a large party along with two to three other tables. At one point, it was standing room only!
Chicken Satay Skewers
This was to die for! Granted we were starving, we smelled the savory flavor from across the room. For starters, we devoured our four skewers with grilled, tender chicken strips in no time. We dipped the meat in mouth watering homemade peanut sauce and Oriental dressing with cucumbers, carrots, and onions. Our hunger subsided a little, but the bar was set pretty high.
Chicken Pad Thai
This dish was passable. The flavor was ok and the noodles were a little more chewy than normal. You had to work a little extra to get it down. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either.
Spicy Mint Leaves Beef
Next up the medium spicy mint leaves beef. The flavor was quite good, but a tad too spicy for me. A compromise as my wife loves spicy food. I just tempered it with more white rice. Sadly, the rice was like the noodles in that some parts were harder to chew than usual. This is a common theme as the beef was tougher than what I am used to.
My wife and I were pleasantly surprised at our new Thai Town find. Run by a husband and wife team, we were greeted and checked on with friendly smiles. The skewers were the best we ever had and the beef was quite delicious. We’ll pass on the Pad Thai next time and perhaps give one of their curries a try. We did have a setback on the food’s texture, but it was very minor compared to everything else. Finally, the menu prices were very reasonable. If you’re looking for a Thai Town treat, give Krua Siri a try!
